💥Red Rover Red Rover by Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick💥
Book one in The Accidental Cases of Emily Abbott.
Blurb:
He makes terrible coffee, but he sure is good in a car chase!
Emily Abbott is working hard as a coffee barista in downtown Phoenix, keeping one eye on her tiny college fund and the other on the mysterious new guy with his profound lack of coffee-making skills. Just when she thinks they might be getting the hang of working together, she’s abruptly thrust into his world of espionage and danger.
Brent Peterson, aka Agent Nighthawk, needs her help protecting a defecting enemy spy and keeping the information he carries out of the wrong hands. But she’s just a barista—what can she do?Much more than she thinks.
My thoughts:
I’m speechless.. I haven’t read a spy novel in a VERY long time, so this was a pleasant change!
I did it again, guys. I got into a book thinking it wasn’t going to be a “to be continued” ending, and it was. Ugghhh why do I do this to myself?!!! Do any of ya’ll do that?!
I need the second book! Emily and Brent were so funny and I LOVED their banter!! It was really refreshing to see a friendship growing rather than a romantic relationship.
I am a sucker for code names, y’all. It just gives me adorable and hilarious vibes! I love them so much! Give me some code names (call signs, etc) and funny banter; and I am one happy reader!😉
It felt a tiny bit rushed, but because of the page length it kind of made sense.
The little twists and turns were fun. I couldn’t really figure out how fast it would take Emily to figure out that Brent is a spy, so that was actually a fun little ride!
I loved every bit of this small first book of Emily’s adventures with Brent, and I look forward to continuing the series to see what happens next. 😁
⚠️ Age recommendation: 13+ ⚠️
My rating: 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sexual Content:
Minor noticing (how someone looks and their features, not attraction). Emily tries to avoid a high school kid, that regularly comes to the coffee shop, because he has a crush on her. Mentions of how the kid won’t stop hitting on her or won’t stop asking for her phone number. Mentions of Emily being too old for the kid to be hitting on. A high school aged boy tries to ask (again) for Emily’s number.
Profanity:
An oh my word, and a sheesh. Dumb is said twice. Mentions of curses and Emily almost saying one, but then didn’t and instead stuffing it down with an apologetic prayer. Curses that were said but not written.
Violence:
Some blood (semi-detailed), injuries, and a fight. Mentions of kidnapping a man, potential death, and torture.
POV’s: Emily Abbott
167 Pages
I would totally recommend this book! Great to read when wanting an action-packed, spy vibe book!✨
