🏹The Huntress by Carrie Cotten🏹
A Medieval Christian Fiction Novel.
Book One in this series.
Blurb:
Betrayed by their allies, the last of the Picts have escaped to the innermost part of an endless, dark forest, content to remain hidden there forever. Made queen at just a child, Cyrene has given all of her life and heart to the task of making sure her people are never terrorized again.
When a handsome stranger from the kingdom that betrayed them falls injured at the boundary of her village, she’s forced to choose between mercy and duty.
The second son of a ruling monarch, Duncan would never be considered for the throne, neither did he wish to be. But when a plague sweeps through the land, he is the only one of royal blood left standing. Returning to the tower that holds too many dark memories, the truth of his father’s tangled reign begins to unravel and Duncan is once again forced into a role he never wanted.
My Thoughts:
This is the first book that I’ve read from this author and let’s just say I was pleasantly surprised of how enjoyable it was! I don’t think I’ve ever read a book in the time period of the 800s, so I was interested in how that would be like; and I wasn’t disappointed! I also really liked the way the characters talked in the book and how it was written, it just made it realistic.😊
Cyrene was a bold and courageous woman, perfect for the sweet and lovable Duncan! The way their pain and struggles were written was incredible, because it was like I was right there with them! I hurt when they hurt!
Eowin and Astrid were hilarious with their obvious dislike and attraction to each other! On top of that, the way Duncan and Cyrene’s faith was shown in how they lived was very admirable!
Here are some tropes and some things I also liked:
💞Slow-burn romance
💞He falls first
💞 Arranged marriage
💞The heroine being an asset in battle! Also, Cyrene being really good at the bow is awesome! 👏🏼
💞The Epilogue. That ending was ADORABLE!!
It can’t get any better when you have Christian doctrine woven into an intriguing story of war, emphasizing trust and love through the hardest times, and a delightful, swoony romance! This is a MUST read! If this hasn’t sold you, I don’t know what can!
⚠️My age rating for this book is 15-16+.⚠️
My rating: 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Sexual Content:
Several kisses(some detailed, some mildly detailed, and some quick and lightly detailed), a neck kiss, forehead kisses, Hand/palm kisses, handholding, embraces, caresses, and touches. Attraction, Tingles, Heat, Blushes, Nearness, Noticing, and Warmth. Wanting to kiss, remembering kisses, and thinking about it. After their wedding, there’s some hints of being intimate and him loosening the laces of her dress.. if you really pay attention you could kinda figure out what they did but it didn’t have a lot of heat like you would think.
At the end of the book, there is a baby born (there is hardly any details of the actual birth, more of what she felt and pain). Falling in love and the feelings. Marriage of convenience trope.
Profanity:
None
Violence:
Fight scenes, some blood, killing, and death. (Mildly detailed)
POV’s: Duncan and Cyrene.
Number of pages: 382
This was a great read! I just loved it so much.. it gave me all the feels, and when I saw the art pictures of Duncan and Cyrene, It got all my fangirl emotions in a tizzy!🤩
