The Lightkeeper’s Daughter by Colleen Coble

💐The Lightkeeper’s Daughter by Colleen Coble💐

Book one in the Mercy Falls series.

Blurb:

With the lies of the past behind her, Addie finds love . . . and discovers her true Father.

Addie Sullivan leads a quiet life in a northern California lighthouse. She mourns the death of her father and endures her mother’s bitterness, until the night a storm brings an injured stranger and a dark secret to her home. The man insists she is not who she thinks she is, but rather “Julia Eaton”—the child long lost and feared dead by her wealthy family. Seizing the chance to be reunited with the Eatons, Addie leaves her lighthouse home but decides to keep her true identity a secret until they can unravel the mystery.

Addie loves the Eatons’ palatial home tucked away among the California redwood forests. She feels secure with the jovial family, adores the young boy who is her charge as governess, and finds romance with his father John, a young widower. But sinister shadows overtake Addie’s joy. As dusty rooms and secret compartments give up their clues about her past, Addie finds a faith and a love she could never have guessed. To embrace this new world of promise is to risk her life; but to run away is to risk losing the greatest love she’s ever known.

My thoughts:

This romantic mystery was enjoyable.

I didn’t feel very connected to the characters, but I did very much like the mystery/suspense of it all. I can see readers who like love at first sight, enjoy this book; but, frankly, I don’t care much for that trope. The romance came way too quickly for my taste, and it felt like they were kissing too quickly from the span of their relationship.

Although, there are some things that I did like. Addie’s faith in God was woven in the story perfectly, she was a great example of a Christian who tried to depend on God for everything, even when things seemed hard. Her struggle, at the last bit of the book, of not changing who she was and of not wavering in her faith because of her want of acceptance, felt real to me.🩷 Addie intrigued me in more ways than one it seems. Her different personality in how she held herself was astonishing! I loved the details of her being barefoot and letting her hair down, and even though I didn’t feel much connected to John and Addie, I did like their banter!😄

The whole mystery of it all was very pleasant. I didn’t see those twists coming, and it kept me wanting more!

⚠️ Age recommendation: 15-16+ ⚠️

My rating: 3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

Sexual Content:

Quite a few kisses (most of those pretty detailed and some light or mild; in one of those kisses they were on the floor), holding hands, a nose kiss, and embraces. Remembering kisses, thinking about kissing and wanting to kiss. Warmth, Heat, Noticing, Tingles, Attraction, and Blushes. Some romantic banter. Some mentions of John wanting a baby girl with Addie’s eyes and hair. Mentions of John’s passion and love for Addie. John wants to kiss and hold Addie. Love at first sight, falling in love, and the emotions (a lot).

Profanity:

None

Violence:

Some blood and death. (Very mild) Addie and her biological mother was thought to have died in a shipwreck. Mentions of a murderer. Threats of killing people from a man.

POV’s: Switch Between Addie and John

Pages: 311

While I liked this book, it wasn’t my favorite; but I could see girls liking this book, I just like more of a slow-burn romance.😁 Though, I am interested to see what else the author has in the series and the other books Colleen Coble has written!
