Orphan’s Song by Gillian Bronte Adams

✨Orphan’s Song by Gillian Bronte Adams✨

Book One in the Songkeeper Chronicles.

Blurb:

Her solo is a death sentence.

Deep within the world of Leira flows a melody that was sung at the beginning of time by Emhran, the Master Singer. Now it is broken, buried, forgotten. But in each generation, a Songkeeper arises to uphold the memory of the Song against those who want it silenced forever.

When Birdie first hears the Song coming from her own mouth, her world shatters. She is no longer simply an orphan but the last of a hunted people. Forced to flee for her life, she must decide whom to trust—a traveling peddler, a streetwise thief, or a mysterious creature who claims to know her past.

With enemies at her heels and war threatening to tear her homeland apart, Birdie soon discovers an overwhelming truth: the fate of Leira may hinge on one orphan’s Song.

My thoughts:

Hmm.

What can I say about this book?

It was different and yet interesting.

This book had no romance at all, though I have no idea what will happen as the series continues. Even though I love a good romance story, I ended up enjoying this book!

Birdie and Amos’s friendship (but more of a father and daughter relationship) was really sweet.

I just felt for Ky! I cannot say how much I wanted to slap Carhartan or any of the other soldiers because of their lack of feeling towards the orphans. All Ky and Birdie longed for, was for someone to cherish and love them, and my heart broke!

The allegory of God through Emhran was beautifully written. Gundhrold was such a character! I laughed every single time him and Amos were in a conversation!

Amos was a fierce protector, yet such a teddy bear with Birdie! I can also see Ky being a great friend toward Birdie.. and dare I say, maybe even more?! 🤞

Though either way, I would still enjoy the story even if there’s not any romance. 🙃

The cliffhanger was.. something. I mean I do have the second book in hand but my stomach could do without the drop.😅 Though I guess the author does get points for giving this reader anticipation to start the second book soon!

⚠️ Age recommendation: 10-12+, but it could be for teens too. ⚠️

My rating: 4 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Sexual Content:

None

Profanity:

None

Violence:

Some fighting scenes, death, blood, and killing. A man was stabbed in chest and died ( All of this seen by Birdie, mildly detailed). Gunhrold bit off the hand of a man (Lightly detailed). One of Takhran’s soldiers pierced a boy’s side with a shaft (Mildly detailed). A man was hit by a knife thrown at his neck and died instantly (Mildly detailed).

POV’s: Switches between Birdie, Amos, Ky, and (1x) Carhartan.

Pages: 300

This was a great read for younger readers and even for older readers too.

I’m excited to continue the series and see what’s next in Birdie’s story!
